An Open Letter to the Sunnyside Community

Honesty. Redemption. Hope.

Entering politics is new for me, but from the beginning, I understood that running for public office meant being transparent about my past. I knew some would bring it up and use it against me — but I chose to run anyway. Why? Because my love for this community and my commitment to change are far stronger than my fear of judgment.

Yes, I’ve made mistakes. That’s no secret — it’s public record. I take full responsibility for my past and have spent years rebuilding my life, my career, and my place in this community. I don’t blame anyone else. Instead, I’ve focused on becoming better for my family, my students, and my city.

A Journey of Accountability and Growth

I want to thank the Sunnyside Police Department for treating me with dignity during difficult times. My biggest punishment wasn’t the arrest — it was the pain of knowing my son and students witnessed it. That moment broke me, but it also built in me a deeper sense of humility and strength.

I also want to thank the Sunnyside School District for giving me a second chance. Fourteen years ago, I lost everything. But that second chance allowed me to rebuild, to serve, and to find purpose again. Since then, I’ve earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, been named Teacher of the Year, and served as a Special Olympics volunteer, SHS sports announcer, and Strengthening Families Facilitator with Sunnyside United-Unidos. I’ve also taught English classes for adults at Nuestra Casa, co-coordinated the Healthy Kids Running Series, and helped build a church right here in our community.

Every step forward has been an act of gratitude — a way to give back to the same community that never gave up on me.

Why I’m Running

I’m not running for office to escape my past — I’m running because of it. My experiences have taught me accountability, redemption, and the power of second chances. I want to bring that same understanding to the City Council: fighting for fairness, supporting all members of our community, and ensuring that no one is defined by their lowest moment.

This role doesn’t come with riches — it comes with responsibility. The small stipend I’ll receive as a councilmember will go right back into my classroom and my family. Sunnyside faces real challenges, but also real opportunities. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and do the work. All I’m asking for is a fair chance.

A Promise of Transparency and Service

Since announcing my candidacy, I’ve worked tirelessly to build trust and earn your vote. If elected, I’ll continue to serve with compassion, integrity, and transparency — every single day.

There are many people in Sunnyside who, like me, know what it’s like to fall — and to get back up. Mistakes shouldn’t be life sentences. I am living proof that with community, love, and determination, it’s possible to rise again.

So I ask you — don’t just see where I’ve been; see how far I’ve come. See the growth, the dedication, and the heart I’ve poured into this city we all call home.

Let’s Move Forward Together

If you have questions or concerns, I invite you to reach out to me directly — not through social media rumors, but through honest conversation. Let’s sit down, talk, and keep building a stronger Sunnyside together.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you to my family for standing by me through every chapter of this journey. With your support, I’m ready to continue serving Sunnyside with honesty, humility, and hope.
