The Importance of Listening: Building a Council that Works for the People
In a healthy democracy, leadership isn’t about who speaks the loudest — it’s about who listens the best.
When council members take the time to truly hear the people they represent, decisions become more thoughtful, transparent, and effective. Listening is how we build trust — and right now, Sunnyside needs more of it.
A Council That Works Together
Too often, city councils fall into division and dysfunction. When that happens, progress stalls, and the community pays the price. A functional council isn’t one where everyone agrees — it’s one where members respect differences, communicate openly, and focus on solutions rather than politics.
As a teacher, I’ve learned that listening to students, parents, and colleagues doesn’t just solve problems — it prevents them. Sunnyside deserves that same approach at City Hall.
Accessibility Means Accountability
A government that works for the people must be accessible to the people. That means holding open forums, answering questions directly, and making it easier for residents to participate in public meetings.
If elected, I will:
- Collaborate with various groups to support listening sessions in multiple neighborhoods.
- Publish clear updates on council decisions and spending.
- Respond compassionately to community concerns through open communication channels.
Transparency isn’t a buzzword — it’s a promise.
Putting People Before Politics
Politics should never take precedence over the people of Sunnyside. When leaders start serving agendas instead of neighbors, trust disappears. My campaign is built on one simple belief: we serve better when we listen first.
Together, We Can Rebuild Trust
Our city is full of people who care — teachers, business owners, parents, and students who all want Sunnyside to thrive. It’s time for a City Council that listens, collaborates, and acts in the best interest of everyone, not just a few.
Listening builds understanding. Understanding builds progress. And progress builds community.
That’s how we make Sunnyside stronger — together.
